Dog friendly hamburger recipe

May 28, 2021

Today is Hamburger day!

The best way to celebrate this delicious invention is (you guessed it) by eating burgers!

You know we would never leave your fur friends out, so we have come up with a great recipe for them to join in the celebrations and whoof down their own woopers.

Because the cheeseburger is our personal favourite, this is what we have chosen to replicate in a dog friendly version!

Cheeseburger recipe for dogs

For 2 burgers

Ingredients:

  • 650g mince beef (kangaroo, chicken or turkey mince can also be used.)
  • 1/2 tsp Oregano
  • 1/2 tsp Parsley
  • 2 thin slices of cheddar cheese
  • 2 fresh raspberries, sliced
  • A handful of baby spinach
  • ¼ cucumber, sliced
  • 1 large sweet potato

Direction:

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high or prepare your BBQ. If you don’t have a grill, you can use a frying pan.
  2. Wash and scrub the sweet potato but keep the skin on. Slice into 3cm thick slices. This will serve as your top and bottom bun. Put 4 of the largest slices aside.
  3. Mix the ground beef with herbs. Divide the meat into two portions. With your hands, roll into a ball and flatten into 2-3 cm patties.
  4. Next, cook your sweet potato “bun” slices on the grill for 5min on each side. The goal is to get them a bit soft but not mushy. You can use a smear of coconut oil to help. Once cooked, set aside.
  5. Cook your beef patties on the grill, 5 min on each side. In the last minute of cooking, top with a slice of cheese and let it melt slightly.
  6. Assemble your doggy cheeseburgers: start with one slice of sweet potato “bun”, top with the beef patty and baby spinach. Add a few slices of strawberry and cucumber (FYI, that’s the tomatoe and pickle in our human cheeseburger). Cover with another slice of sweet potatoe for the top bun.
  7. Let your pup enjoy!

Happy Burger Day!
