Who says our four legged friends can’t join the chocolate cake celebrations?
While regular chocolate is a no-go for dogs, carob is the perfect pet-friendly alternative that lets you share a slice of the fun with your bestie.
In honour of Chocolate Cake Day on Monday 27th January, we've whipped up a delicious chocolate mud cake recipe that’s completely safe for dogs—made with love, and of course, carob.
Whether it’s for a special occasion or just because your pup deserves a treat, this cake is sure to get tails wagging and doesn't require much work in the kitchen.

Chocolate Mud Cake Dog Friendly Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol free).
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup carob powder
- 1/2 cup yoghurt or carrob chips for icing (optional)
Method:
- Preheat over to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease a 23 x 23 x 5 cm (9"x2") round cake pan, or line with baking paper.
- Combine egg, peanut butter, oil, vanilla, and honey in a large mixing bowl; mix well.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour and baking soda; fold into wet ingredient mixture.
- Add 1/4 cup of carob powder and combine well.
- Pour cake batter into greased cake pan.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked thoroughly.
- Let cool and frost with whipped yoghurt or melted carob chips.
And there you have it—a dog-friendly chocolate mud cake that is 100% safe for your dog to eat.
